Mt Abbot Saturday

Post by ridgeline »

Going to do Abbot on Sat. if anyone cares to tag along. Trying to get the rest of the group to start at 4am, but the time is set for 5am as of now. The pace will be slow, have hiked with them before. Ice axe/crampons for the couloir, to the ridge. Helmets for rockfall in the first 800ft.

Abbott was a great hike! We did it in 2002 as a backpack.

I would do that one again if I didn't already have plans this weekend. You'll have a great time!

Kathy, we are a group of four, two of the group are pretty slow, and one young lady is coming in from Florida on Friday from 0 elevation, she went on a previous trip and I dont think will make this hike past the base of Abbot. Hope I dont sound negative but thats the facts.

Snowy, great photos of Abbot, are there any peaks you have not done?

Tom, dont forget me for Snow Crown.

Thanks for the info Ridgeline. Slow sounds good to me and so does Abbot. It's looking like I'll have work on a report over the weekend; so that means I have to stay close to home.
:( Have fun on Abbott!!!!

July 21st went with Justin, Jared, and Lori to Mount Abbot. Knowing the hiking speed of the others I tried to convince them into a two day trip for Mt Abbot, but they wanted to try in a day so off we went. We had a 5am start from Mosq.Flat trailhead, there were breaks before the breaks before the break. With wasted time route finding after going too high on the couloir two of us made it to the airy bridge and decided to turn around at 3pm, there was shade on the couloir wich had a bit of ice going up, and this was justin's second time in crampons. Justin did take off on the way down, 0 to 60 in 1 sec but was able to self arrest after 75 ft.
All in all it was still a great day in the mountains, everyone head back to the car and I took my time stopping to smell the flowers, enjoying the valley as the sun set, all the time thinking, Aint life grand!
