Matterhorn Peak

Post by KathyW »

I'd like to attempt Matterhorn Peak in the Yosemite area this season. Anyone else interested? I could do it either the weekend of July 21st, August 11th, or September 8th.

More info on Matterhorn:

I'll be looking at doing it via the Class 2 route.

although July 21 is out for me
a late August or Sept would be great - maybe I can combine a day off work and get half dome

thanks - Tom

Tom: I'll keep you in the loop. July 21 is probably the least likely date for me because I'll be coming back from Washington just a few days before that and I probably won't want to drive that far. Have you done Half Dome before?

I'm interested to join you also Kathy.

Unfortunately I'm stuck at work with few days off until after mid August, so maybe Sept 8 (or a day late in August if your plans change).

I have some extra days off the last week of August - not sure about around the 11th time frame you mentioned - how tight is your last half of August schedule - I will check work calender tomorrow

Shawn and Tom:

August for me:

I'm doing a backpacking trip over Bishop Pass and on to try Mt Sill Aug 1st or 2nd to Aug 4th or 5th. Then we're looking at a day hike to Mt Russell on August 18th. I am going to go to Colorado to do a little peak bagging and exploring on my own from August 25th to September 1st.

If anyone is interested in the Sill or Russell trips, you're welcome to join in on them. Right now it's a group of 3 for Sill - the other two are a bit faster than me and going in on the 2nd of August, so I might head in a day early so that I don't have to kill myself trying to keep up. For Russell, we might have 5 or 6 people - we'll start early and some of us might stash a sleeping bag at one of the lakes so we can bivy on Saturday night if we get really tired on the way out.

Anyway, that leaves the weekend of August 11th or any weekend after the first weekend in September for Matterhorn. September 8th would work.

If you guys decide to do Matterhorn some weekend that I can't make it - be sure you bring back pictures to share.

I'm looking at the southeast slope from Horse Creek Pass (class 2), but I'd also be willing to give the east couloir a try (class 3). Can anyone do it August 11th or September 15th or September 22nd?
