Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Although if has felt like summer for awhile, Mother Nature is going to deliver to us one more shot of spring. An unseasonably strong low pressure system is now pushing towards the Pacific Northwest and will deliver much cooler temperatures and windy conditions to our area Tuesday. We can expect a temperature drop of some 10 degrees by Tuesday. Down slope winds will create a wind advisory Tuesday mid-day into the late evening for the Owens Valley and the High Country. With the high winds and dry air comes very high to extreme fire danger through at least tomorrow. Meanwhile today will be summer like with warm temps and mild conditions.

Today for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Partly sunny skies. Daytime temps in the low 90s and evening lows in the mid 50s. Light wind becoming west 10 - 15 mph with gusts of 20 in the afternoon.

Tomorrow for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Partly sunny skies, windy and cooler. Daytime temps in the mid 80s and evening lows in the upper 40s. Southwest wind 20 - 30 mph gusting to 55 in the afternoon

Today for Mammoth & the Mono Valleys: Partly cloudy and breezy. High temperature range mid 70s for the Main Lodge and mid 80s for the Mono Valleys. Low temp range 36 - 46. Southwest wind 15 - 20 mph gusting to 35 in the afternoon and evening.

Tomorrow for Mammoth & the Mono Valleys: Partly cloudy, cooler and continued breezy. High temperature range low 60s for the Main Lodge and low 70s for the Mono Valleys. Low temp range 28 - 38. Southwest wind 15 - 25 mph gusting to 35.

Cooler temperatures and breezy conditions will continue into Thursday. High pressure will begin to rebuild over California on Friday. Smoke from the new "Goldledge" fire located ten miles north of Kernville will likely degrade visibility in parts of our southern area until containment. Right now the fire is zero contained.
