How early is JMT passable North to South this year?

Post by oystersandbeer »

Does anyone have any information on the snowpack from Yosemite to Whitney this year? I would like to head south on the JMT as soon as it is reasonably passable and am hoping for some input from either skiers or hikers who have visited sections of the trail in the past month or so. Thanks.

Not too helpful, but good luck in your search.

JMT

This is a really, really low snow year. Still, I would think you'd want to wait until at least the 20th- 25th or so of June if you start from Yosemite. By then, you should be fine all the way south.

Good hiking.

I've been obsessing over charts and sensor data for weeks now. I'm going to start heading north from Whitney on the 24th of June.
