Bear boxes at First Falls walk-in camp (Big Pine Creek)?

Post by Bruce B »

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there are bear boxes at the First Falls walk-in campground? This is the camp about one mile down the North Fork Big Pine Creek trail.

I'm planning to stay there the first night on the trail. I'm trying to figure out whether I need to fit food for day 2 in my bear canister or if there are boxes available at the campground.

Thanks.

Good question. Hopefully someone will chime in. I remember looking down on the camp and seeing the tables, and the old road that used to access it when I presume it was a car campground. But I didn't go down to visit it and see what else it had. Nice looking campground.

doesn't say, so I'd call the number..
FIRST FALLS WALK-IN CAMPGROUND
This free campground can be reached by parking in the
backpacker parking lot and hiking approximately one mile
on the North Fork trail. Five sites have tables, fire rings
and a pit toilet. Be sure to treat the mountain water with a
filter.
No boxes mentioned. Not really even sure if this is the right one. :retard:

Thanks for the replies. That is the correct campground, rlown. I'll try calling USFS if no one on the board has an answer for sure.

No there isn't.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Thanks for the info, maverick! I knew someone here would have an answer. Looks like I'll have to fit another day of dog food and human food in the bear canister.
