Donnell

Post by markatrog »

Has anyone hiked in to Lake Donnell from the East off the Forest Rd? I've read that there is a trail that starts 2.5 miles from Clark fork, drops down into the inlet area. Looking for info on this unmarked trail?
Sorry no sure where to post this.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Sounds like you're trying to hit the northern shore of the inlet from the Forest Road rather than the southern shore of the inlet area from the overlook on 108 as done in the one post on this topic. The NE side descent certainly looks feasible on the topo. I have thought of going that way, too. It's longer and probably has a bit more route finding complexity than going from the overlook, but there may be a bit more flexibility to move around once you get to the bottom.

Trip Report. Left camp on 6No6 sat morning and started off looking for the 2.5 mile trail head spur road. We found spur road but no trail head so to speak, so we keep working or way up the road in the van looking at camp sight turn offs and parking areas. I will put the map up to show start and return
points. My well laid plans were disrupted by manzanita shrubs. We felt like the ants working there way around obstacles. We keep getting pushed east and further down the ravine . The weather keep getting warmer and I was not willing to drag my boy through rough train. I new it would be a chore hiking back up so we called the lake a bust and headed dos to the river on the path of least resistance to get to water. The weather was very warm 86 and calm. Just before the river we found trail flags and were encouraged that going up would be a bit easer. After a long lunch break we head up only to loose trail markers half way so up we went. Long day and not a good idea. We were beat. Have to try again next time when I have more time. ImageImage
