Hoover wilderness pct

Post by The hermit »

Has anyone been on the pct south of Sonora pass? Hoping to get off work this weekend and early next week. I figure it won't be too bad. I'll be staying under 10k coming in from Leavitt meadows looping thru pct to Stella lake area and back. Thanks

I suspect you will have a lot of snow. Remember, this 9 miles south of Sonora Pass gets up to around 11,000 feet elevation and stays there for a long distance. There is a nasty steeply sloped snowfield that you will probably find across the PCT just west of Latopie Lake that you can bypass by climbing up higher to flatter terrain - we had to go around it in September of 2006, so I bet you will have it in June of this year!
