Where do you blog?

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Where do you blog?

Post by oleander »

Hi,

About a year ago I went looking for an EASY, free site, where you can blog/write and post photos INLINE as you write. I was pointed to posterous.com. I found that remarkably easy to use. But it's been shut down.

Do you have a blog venue where you can alternate written words and photos inline? Yes, I'm talking a trip report format: Could be up to 5 pages of writing, with 10 to 30 photos inline.

It will need to be password-protected; only people with the link and the password can read it.

May even be willing to pay a small fee if that is the choice I'm limited to.

I don't really "blog". If i do anything like it, it's generally on HST.

Some of my friends use: http://www.blogger.com/home?pli=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know if it's free, or if it's easy. Looks to be easy.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

I'm using Wordpress, in fact I just recently (last week) converted my backpacking website to a Wordpress "framework".

To add..I'm using the self-hosted version of WP. I have my own domain and I installed WP (free). Lots of free themes to chose from as well as lots of neat plugins to help create photo galleries.

I use wordpress. It's really easy to use if you don't want to customize much.

I've used both blogger and wordpress and honestly, blogger is a lot more user friendly. I like computer programs and websites which are intuitive, and blogger is much better in this regard, in my opinion.

I use Wordpress and like it. Better than Blogspot, at least it was a few years ago when I switched over. Haven't tried Blogger.

I've been using Blogger (Blogspot) for a few years and I like the ability to customize the format and the Google analytics that come with it.

We use a blog function on our website---part of the free google website programs.

WE like the whole google sites approach, with a few caveats:

1. It's a PITA to register a domain name outside of the googlessites url. IT can be done,we did it, but it was still a PITA.

2. There is no real way for readers to leave comments on googles sites. Google says there is....but there isn't

Or just read a good mystery novel set in the Sierra; https://www.amazon.com/Danger-Falling-R ... 0984884963
