Fine them the $5000 maximum!

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Fine them the $5000 maximum!

Make an example out of them to discourage others:

Good news! There are snowmobilers that have been riding into off limits areas for years especially in the Sonora Pass region. Same people that hate wilderness designations, hate environmentalists, and if they had their way would drive 4WD, ATV's, and dirt bikes over all landscapes including those fragile without any concern for damage. Fine em hurt em spank em lessons learned!

Yes, I agree that folks who won't obey the posted prohibition of motorized vehicles in a wilderness area should be given the maximum fines, and any other punishment deemed appropriate. Their mistakes need to be made example of, until the time that these violations stop happening. In the linked article, the comments from the anti-wilderness knuckleheads are astounding. These kinds of trespass happen far too often in our wilderness areas, and it is really sad that violators and their supporters feel they are within their rights to trample wilderness. Too bad the motorized invaders can't police themselves. Until they can, they deserve to have the book thrown at them for their selfishness.

So not true, a few ignorant fools give the whole community a bad name. Most people who love the outdoors and recreate multiple ways take pride in helping the environment. Remember if you use a 4x4 to get to the trail head, your an offroader. It would be the same to label all hikers as POS because of a few jerks that litter, have fires above timberline, and don't practice lnt. Again a few shouldn't represent the bulk.

Tough to police those breaking the law when the law abiders are no where near the wilderness, as it should be. These jerks are the same people who poach and steal.... People who arn't of that world can't do much about it except condem those who are breaking the law.
