whats in your headphones?

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Some really good music suggestions in this thread.

I'm like JimR, I never carry a music player in the wild but I've always got a tune or three running through my head, at times repeating endlessly, obsessively.

Haha, story commin'. True story. My kids have a friend who lives on Juanita street in Redondo Beach. When I started taking them there and picking them up, I thought I knew, or at least my truck knew where to go. One night, I was supposed to pick them up at a certain time. I let the truck lead the way, but the damn thing got lost. I drove up and down and up and down several housing tracts looking for a familiar place. I was getting annoyed, so I tried to call one of them; no answer. I tried the other; no answer. Now I was getting pissed. The only damn reason I bought them cell phones is so we could be in contact with them. They never answered their phone and when I really needed it, nada!

I thought about letting them walk their arse home, then I recalled the street he lived on reminded me of a song. I couldn't remember the song, so I searched and searched my mind for that song, which you think would not take long since it's not very big. Suddenly, it hit me; Fat Man in the Bathtub by Little Feat. I drove right up to the house, then proceeded to read them the riot act for not answering their phone.

Several months went by and every time I turned on his street, I'd start belting out "Juanita, my sweet chiquita, where are you off tooooooo, my Juanita aah ha". One day, my daughter asked me why I sang that song every time I took them to K.J.'s house. I told her it was because she never answered her goddamn phone!

Agree with you completely about not carrying a player in the backcountry. Enough going on there to enjoy.
