whats in your headphones?

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Hah. I get tired of all that and I only have a pair of nephews, let alone kids of my own. That stuff's just so infectious and catchy; it completely drowns out not only the music I so often have going through my head, but even my general thoughts as well.
Maybe there will be no more labels on the evolutionary history of modern music...
There will definitely be labels for musical evolution, it's just going to get a lot more difficult to tie a particular trend or dominant sound to a given time period. Though you could also argue that that was already the case in previous generations, and it's just that it's finally been amplified to the point where those over generalizations are on full display to much wider audience.
Satisfied has some very familiar structure.
That's part of the reason I chose that particular band and song. Back when they released their debut, they were said to have a sound reminiscent of California surf rock in the 60's and early 70's. And while there's plenty of excellent music being made that has less direct parallels to older styles, pushing boundaries is best done one step at a time.

And now, for something that both sounds and looks like something from the time period in which it was made: the 90's. Featuring the wonderful Carla Bozulich and a young Nels Cline. The band is, at least ostensibly, alt-country, but the second half of that label can only really be fully applied to a handful of tracks on this album. And this track isn't one of them.

Ashery, I don't see anything alt-country in that video. If they used real cats, I might have a different opinion.

For Jimr. I know how sensitive you are to the 60's.. :D

So, I mentioned Jethro Tull in reference to the movie "Armageddon" to my wife.. She said, "He's going to be in town.." You can figure out the issue. :)
