Lisa,
1. A good reason to re-visit the area.
2. Now that I think about it, it was hidden under the down jacket, semi-retired :D
3.

See the cotton clothing? This is the trip when I got full-on hypothermia. In 60-degree conditions. #cottonkills

I assume the fires have something to do with it. Sad season...

Ahh, memories. Great to look thru this.

My first visit to the Sierra (even California) was in 1989. I came from Europe and had a singular goal - getting up the Nose on El Capitan. It took three days and was not as bad as it had looked when I cleared Wawona tunnel and saw the Big Stone for the first time a month earlier.

That year I stayed in the valley for 3 months - dodging rangers and changing identity many times. Not having a vehicle made the underground existence doable.

All my old photos are slides, any advice on slide scanners? Thanks, Harlen.

Thanks Maverick, the forum [viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10187&p=103590&hilit=scanning#p76880] has been a huge help. I'm still researching the range of slide-scanning possibilities.

Here's a photo someone sent to me from our Asian Mountain trip in 1987. Note the tattered clothes- traveling on a shoestring.

Hey John- giantbrookie, I just came across that photo of you on page 7 of this thread, as a kid on Alta Peak- what a great photo it is!!! It seems a lot of us concur; any chance you could re-submit it, paired with another of you on the same peak 40 years later? If you haven't got it, you must get back up there and get it- your fans await. Thanks, Harlen et. al.

This has leapt to the top of my favorite threads! Such classic shots! In today's era of synthetic clothing and ultralight gear, it's awesome to get a glimpse into past and feel the nostalgia of the denim cutoffs, flannel shirts, external frame packs and canvas tents. Having only been introduced to the Sierra in the past five years or so, I'm sad to have missed out on those times. Makes me wonder what my pics will look like in 20-30 years.

Thanks for posting!
