Read a story in the 'Nevada Appeal', Feb. 1 edition about a bacterial strain that kills quagga and zebra mussels without killing other native species in the ecosystem. Pseudomonas fluorescens. Discovered when lack of sensitivity among non-target species. It infiltrates and destroys the digestive system. Kill rate is 100%. Dead cells are equally as lethal as live cells, due to a natural toxin in the strains cells, not the bacteria itself. Marketed by Marrone Bio Innovations, Zequanox. Story goes on about the product has not been applied to open water and could be approved first quarter of 2011. Interesting.
