Sharsmith Peak

Ahoy Campers:

I just got a note reminding me there's a movement to name a peak after Dr. Carl Sharsmith, who was a ranger-naturalist in Yosemite -- mostly Tuolumne Meadows -- for 60 years. He was also a distinguished alpine botanist at San Jose State. I had the good fortune to accompany him on many of his nature walks as well as a trip to Lyell & McClure in the 70s and 80s. Some of you older types may remember him from Tuolumne. I don't think a ranger with his depth of knowledge, dedication to place and ability to explain it all will occur again. A peak seems like a darned good idea.

In any event, there's a web site explaining the process and how to go about sending a letter of support to the Board of Geographic Names:

The proposed Sharsmith Peak is on the Sierra Crest, currently Peak 12,002 above Skelton Lakes and north of Tioga Pass. I've done a map at:

Thanks!
