Volunteers are needed for the Sixth Annual Snapshot Day to take water samples, photos and notes at Lake Tahoe and along the Truckee River from 9 a.m. to noon, May 20. Experts will compare the valuable information on water quality to previous years’ information and make recommendations to help preserve water quality, recreation areas and wildlife habitat.
“More than 300 volunteers turned out to help at last year’s Snapshot Day, and we still need volunteers for this year’s event,” says Leslie Allen, Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Coordinator, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
No previous experience is necessary, but if you would like to be a team leader, you will need to attend one training session at 4:30 p.m., either May 8, 9, 10 or 11, depending on where you will be participating. For more information, contact Leslie Allen, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, (775) 784-4848 or allenl@unce.unr.edu.
The event is sponsored by California State Water Resources Control Board, City of Reno, Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, Lake Tahoe Community College, Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition, Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Sierra Nevada College, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Tahoe Resource Conservation District, Truckee River Watershed Council, UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, and many other contributors and volunteers.
