Hey there folks.

As some of you may know, my family purchased Parchers Resort & South Lake Boat Landing over the winter and Im a partner and the General Manager. I was hesitant to post something here but seeing as Ive been an active member on HST since spring of 2005, possibly winter 2004, and after receiving some encouragement from Eric, I wanted to post an invitation.

Beginning this season Parchers Resort will be adding 3 small units for acclimation purposes and it would be awesome if some of you folks wanted to visit. During the peak backcountry season, late-June through mid-September, we have a 2 night maximum on these units to insure that theyre available for guests wise enough to plan pack trips or backpacking trips in the area. The hiker units will sleep 2 in bunks, 3 if youre really friendly, and normally go for $99 per night. The resort is at 9200ft and not only adjacent to Rainbow Pack Outfit but only 1 mile from the Bishop Pass trailhead so we think were on target with our intended purpose.

My parents have been backpacking in the Eastern Sierra for 35+ years now, myself a paltry 15, but being the family of backcountry enthusiasts that we are this was something we had to do.

Anyhow.since HST is easily the best resource for Sierra backcountry info Ive seen and considering Ive obtained so much info from here, especially when it comes to photography, I wanted to extend a personal invitation to members planning a trip to the Bishop backcountry.

If you notify me via PM, HST members receive a 5% discount on the hiker cabins......again, this is for HST members only!

Anyhow, were installing the new hiker units in late May/early June and they should be ready by the time the trails are ready action Keep an eye on our website for pictures of the units once theyre installed. http://www.ParchersResort.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

If you have any questions.hit me up via PM.

Hey, that's great. Hope you guys can continue to make it work.

To everyone else: These are classic rustic cabins in a terrific setting. Perfect river and great hiking nearby. I've never actually stayed at the cabins, but have parked my truck at the pack station many years when I've been stationed at LeConte in Kings Canyon. I've always thought it would be a great place to hang out -- fish & hike etc.

Good luck with the operation.

George

Thanks George. The hiker cabins we will have available this season will actually be new additions to the resort. Given the snow we got this year they will be installed a bit later than we'd hoped but they should be ready to go before the peak hiking season. If you get a chance, come on up to say hello and check out the new digs.

Do you sell just showers? I'll be up in Aug doing day trips and will need a shower in between.

Mr. Smitty, thank you very much, that's mighty kind of you to offer us discounts! I hope to meet up with you this summer because I stop by at South Lake frequently!

What a wonderful place Smitty. Best of luck to your family with that business. I'll recommend to others planning to be in that area that there is a better alternative to staying in Bishop. I really love the cascading stretch of the SF of Bishop Creek just below the resort that follows the old disintegrating paved road. Each fall I work that area because of the nice creek dogwoods, fireweed, aspen, and cottonwood. One of the images I market below was taken there in 2003. ...David

Cheapo that I am, I camp in the boonies. A ride a few years ago from North Lake to my truck at South would have been nice. As it was, I did it in a couple hours with a couple rides. Good luck, that is awesome your family could spring for a resort in a popular area.

Sierra Smitty,

I'll probably be by for a shower on Sunday (6th) after the Sierra Challenge, if you're still open when I get out.

I look forward to meeting you...make sure you introduce yourself by your online handle, might just get you a free shower.

As for the hiker cabins...I hate to admit it but they aren't going to be available for the 2006 season as initially planned....we had a nightmare of a time with our vendor and after having the 3 hiker cabins' arrival pushed back from May 19 to June 20 to July 10 we finally gave up on them and went with another vendor.....the good news is that we now have a contract in hand that gaurantees delivery of the new cabins (and my living quarters) by Sept. 15...a little late for most of the backpackers but come next year we'll be able to deliver on what we hope will become a flourishing backcountry clientelle.

Peace,
Smitty
