FORECAST 14-SEP-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

MONDAY, 14-SEP-09, MORNING REPORT

WE HAVE A SEA SAW PATTERN THIS WEEK OF TROUGHS WITH MOSTLY DRY WEATHER. FIRST, A NEGATIVELY TILTED UPPER LEVEL TROUGH IS MOVING THROUGH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA THIS MORNING CAUSING RAIN SHOWERS ON THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE SIERRA BY HWY 80. SOME SHOWERS MAY REACH THE MONO COUNTY HIGH COUNTRY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TODAY AND THIS EVENING. THIS IS A FAST PACED TROUGH AND I EXPECT IT TO BE IN THE GREAT BASIN BY TOMORROW. IT WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A SHORTWAVE RIDGE ON TUESDAY AND ANOTHER TROUGH, THIS TIME MOVING THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ON WEDNESDAY. HIGH PRESSURE THEN BUILDS IN OVER THE AREA THROUGH FRIDAY. WITH ALL OF THIS, NO REAL SIGNIFICANT WEATHER IS FORECAST AND MOSTLY DRY CONDITIONS WILL PREVAIL WITH A SLIGHT WARMING TREND THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 85. WINDS NW 5 MPH.
TONIGHT: A FEW CLOUDS OVERHEAD. LOWS IN THE MID TO UPPER 40S. WINDS SW 9 - 14 MPH.
TUESDAY: MAINLY SUNNY. HIGHS NEAR 88. WINDS NW 3 - 6 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS SE 7 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE LOW 60S. WINDS W 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S. WINDS W 5 MPH.
TUESDAY: SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 60S. WINDS N 5 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS W 5 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: PARTLY CLOUDY EARLY WITH AN ISOLATED SHOWER OR TWO. HIGHS 61 - 71. WINDS N 10 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: MAINLY CLEAR. LOWS 34 - 44. WINDS NW 10 - 15 MPH.
TUESDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS 68 - 78. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: CLEAR. LOWS 36 - 46. WINDS W 5 - 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
