FORECAST 11-SEP-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 11-SEP-09, MORNING REPORT

SOME HIGH CLOUDS WILL STREAM INTO OUR AREA TODAY ALONG WITH QUITE WARM TEMPERATURES AS WE ARE BETWEEN HIGH PRESSURE IN THE GREAT BASIN AND AN UPPER LOW TO OUR WEST. FOR SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT AN UPSTREAM "KICKER" SYSTEM PUSHES INLAND ACROSS NORTHERN AND CENTRAL CALIFORNIA, WITH ENOUGH POSSIBLE MID LEVEL MOISTURE TO BRING WITH IT SOME SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TO THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF THE SIERRA. ITS HARD TO SAY RIGHT NOW HOW MUCH MOISTURE WILL REACH THE VALLEY FLOORS, BUT THERE IS A CHANCE OF THIS HAPPENING. ON SUNDAY THAT SYSTEM MOVES EAST FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER LOW PASSING THROUGH CONTAINING A COOLER AIR MASS. THIS WILL DROP TEMPERATURES AS MUCH AS 15 DEGREES FOR MONO AND INYO COUNTIES AND ONCE AGAIN BRING A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE AREA. RIDGING THE BUILDS IN ON WEDNESDAY DRYING THINGS OUT AND BRINGING TEMPERATURES UP AGAIN.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 97. WINDS SE 5 - 8 MPH.
