FORECAST 03-SEP-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

THURSDAY, 03-SEP-09, MORNING REPORT
MID AND UPPER LEVEL MOISTURE COMBINED WITH THE SMOKE FROM THE SOCAL WILDFIRES HAS CREATED WHAT WE CALL A "DIRTY" SKY, WITH REDUCED VISIBILITIES IN VARIOUS AREAS OF THE OWENS VALLEY. WITH THAT MOISTURE AND SOME AFTERNOON HEATING, POSSIBLE CONVECTION OVER THE HIGH TERRAIN WILL EXIST FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. A COOLING TREND IS EXPECTED OVER THE WEEKEND AND INTO THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK AS A BROAD UPPER TROUGH LUMBERS SLOWLY ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. WITH THIS WE CAN EXPECT MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES THROUGH ABOUT TUESDAY.
FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS AROUND 95. WINDS SE 6 - 9 MPH.
TONIGHT: SOME CLOUDS OVERHEAD. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS S 8 MPH.
FRIDAY: MAINLY SUNNY. HIGHS NEAR 93. WINDS S 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS SW 9 - 11 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: SOME CLOUDS WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: GENERALLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS W 5 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY: SOME SUN AND CLOUDS WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PM THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE LOW 70S. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS SW 5 - 15 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SOME SUNSHINE AND FEW CLOUDS WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PM THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS 76 - 86. WINDS SW 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 10% CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 40 - 50. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF AN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM. HIGHS 74 - 84. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: MAINLY CLEAR. LOWS 38 - 48. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
