FORECAST 02-SEP-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 02-SEP-09, MORNING REPORT

WHAT LOOKED A LOT LIKE A MAJOR PLAYER IN OUR WEATHER A FEW DAYS AGO, HURRICANE JIMENA, NOW LOOKS TO STALL NORTH OF THE BAJA SPUR. WHATS LEFT WILL BE SOME HIGH LEVEL CLOUDS MOVING INTO OUR AREA AND A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. BY FRIDAY, A SERIES OF SHORTWAVE TROUGHS WILL MOVE THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ALLOWING FOR SOME LIMITED MOISTURE TO DRIFT INTO OUR AREA. RIGHT NOW, THE MOISTURE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE VERY MUCH SO, COOLER TEMPERATURES AND MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WILL BE THE ORDER OF THE DAY THROUGH THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. ONE THING JIMENA WILL DO IS BRING UP THE HUMIDITY LEVELS AND SHOULD ASSIST FIREFIGHTERS IN THE SOCAL AREA WITH THE STATION WILDFIRE.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: CLOUDS AND SUN WITH A STRAY PM THUNDERSTORM POSSIBLE. HIGHS AROUND 95. WINDS SE 7 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: SOME CLOUDS OVERHEAD WITH ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS NW 5 - 10 MPH.
THURSDAY: MAINLY SUNNY. HIGHS NEAR 96. WINDS NW 5 - 10 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS W 5 - 10 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SOME CLOUDS WITH A FEW PM SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. HIGHS 75 - 85. WINDS S 10 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF A FEW SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 45 - 55. WINDS W 10 - 20 MPH.
THURSDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS 77 - 87. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: MAINLY CLEAR. LOWS 46 - 56. WINDS W 10 - 15 MPH.
