FORECAST 01-SEP-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

TUESDAY, 01-SEP-09, MORNING REPORT

SOME SMOKE WILL CONTINUE TO FILTER INTO OUR AREA FROM THE STATION WILDFIRE. MEANWHILE, THE UPPER RIDGE POSITIONED OVER NEW MEXICO WILL BUILD A BIT WESTWARD AND THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME MID LEVEL MOISTURE STREAMING INTO OUR AREA LATER TODAY AND THROUGH THURSDAY. IF NOTHING ELSE WE WILL SEE BOTH MID AND HIGH LEVEL CLOUDS DURING THAT TIME FRAME. AT THIS TIME, IT REMAINS DOUBT FULL, HOW MUCH OF AN EFFECT HURRICANE JIMENA WILL HAVE ON OUR AREA. LETS SAY WE WILL HAVE A SLIGHT CHANCE AT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. BY FRIDAY, THE HIGH WILL START TO BREAK DOWN AHEAD OF A RATHER STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM PUSHING INTO THE PACNW. WHAT THIS MEANS FOR US THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND IS A DROP IN TEMPERATURES AT THE LEAST, WITH SOME CLOUDS AND A CHANCE THUNDERSTORMS IN MONO COUNTY. I WILL UPDATE AS THE WEEKEND NEARS.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 95. WINDS S 7 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: SOME CLOUDS OVERHEAD. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS NW 5 - 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGHS NEAR 95. WINDS S 10 - 15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS SW 6 - 11 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: SOME CLOUDS WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF LIGHT SHOWER OR TWO IN THE PM. HIGHS IN THE LOW 70S. WINDS S 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS SW 5 - 15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE LOW 70S. WINDS SW 5 - 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS W 5 - 15 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SOME CLOUDS WITH A FEW PM SHOWERS POSSIBLE. HIGHS 75 - 85. WINDS SW 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH AN ON-GOING CHANCE OF A FEW SHOWERS. LOWS 40 - 50. WINDS SW 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PM SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS 75 - 85. WINDS SW 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 39 - 49. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
