FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

THURSDAY, 06-AUG-09, MORNING REPORT

A LARGE UPPER LEVEL LOW CURRENTLY MOVING ONSHORE THROUGH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL BRING SIGNIFICANT WEATHER CHANGES TO OUR AREA TODAY. HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL DROP SOME 10 -20 DEGREES FROM YESTERDAY AND THE WINDS WILL PICK UP. THE TRACK OF THAT LOW IS NOW PROGGED TO MOVE A BIT MORE NORTHERLY, KEEPING MOST OF THE MOISTURE UP IN MONO COUNTY AND NORTHWARD. THUNDERSTORMS AND LIGHT SNOW IS STILL EXPECTED IN THE MONO COUNTY AREA. A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN AFFECT FOR MONO AND INYO COUNTIES UNTIL AT LEAST 9:00 THIS EVENING. THE WINDS WILL DIE DOWN AND I EXPECT GRADUAL WARMING AFTER TODAY WITH TEMPERATURES REACHING THE NORMAL RANGE FOR AUGUST BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK, WITH DRY CONDITIONS.
MT. WHITNEY AREA: PARTLY SUNNY TO PARTLY CLOUDY WITH WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH. THURSDAY NIGHTS LOWS WILL BE IN THE MID 20S

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 85. WINDS PICKING UP TO SW 20 - 30 MPH G 40.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY AND WINDY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS SE 20 - 25 MPH G 38 THEN DECREASING LATER IN THE EVENING.
FRIDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS AROUND 83. WINDS NW 3 - 7 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE LOW 50S. WINDS NE 5 MPH.
