FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

TUESDAY, 04-AUG-09, MORNING REPORT

HIGH CLOUDS CONTINUE TO STREAM ACROSS CENTRAL CALIFORNIA AND INTO OUR AREA FROM AN UNUSUALLY LARGE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM STATIONED OFF THE COAST. THUS TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN COOL FOR AUGUST, THE MID 90'S FOR THE OWENS VALLEY. ON THURSDAY, THE LOW MOVES ONSHORE, COOLING THINGS DOWN A LITTLE MORE (CLOSER TO MID SEPTEMBER) AND CREATING THE POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS AND SHOWERS FOR THE VALLEYS AND YES, EVEN LIGHT SNOW IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS, SAY ABOVE 12,000 FEET. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL SOME 10 DEGREES OR SO FROM TODAY'S HIGH. WINDS WILL BECOME A BIG FACTOR AS THAT LOW MOVES THROUGH STARTING ON WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY. BY SATURDAY, A WARMING TREND BEGINS AND THINGS DRY OUT.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 97. WINDS S 15 - 20 MPH G 30.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SE 10 - 15 MPH G 30.
WEDNESDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY AND A BREEZY. HIGHS AROUND 97. WINDS S 10 - 20 MPH G 35.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS S 15 - 20 MPH G 30.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:
