FORECAST 03-AUG-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

MONDAY, 03-AUG-09, MORNING REPORT

UNUSUAL AUGUST WEATHER IS UNFOLDING AS AS LARGE CLOSED LOW SPINS OFF THE CALIFORNIA COAST. WITH THIS THERE IS A BIG INCREASE IN MID AND UPPER LEVEL MOISTURE WHICH WILL ASSIST IN BRINGING COOLER WEATHER INTO THE AREA THROUGH THE WEEK. I EXPECT HIGHS IN THE UPPER 90S THEN LOWER AS THE WEEK PROGRESSES IN THE OWENS VALLEY ALONG WITH BREEZY CONDITIONS OFF AND ON FOR OUR ENTIRE AREA. ON THURSDAY, THE LOW MOVES ONSHORE CREATING A BIG COOL DOWN AND THE POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE CREST AND IN THE VALLEYS. FOR SURE FIRE WEATHER WILL BE A CONCERN ALL WEEK AS WINDY CONDITIONS AND LOW HUMIDITY WILL PREVAIL. RIGHT NOW AT LEAST, ANOTHER TROUGH OUT OF THE GULF OF ALASKA MAKES IT PRESENCE FELT OVER THE WEEKEND, KEEPING TEMPERATURES BELOW NORMAL WITH ON-GOING BREEZY CONDITIONS IN THE HIGH COUNTRY. ITS ALMOST FALL LIKE...

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 97. WINDS SE 1O - 20 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SE 10 - 15 MPH.
TUESDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY AND A BIT BREEZY. HIGHS AROUND 97. WINDS SE 10 - 20 MPH G 30.
TUESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SW 15 - 20 MPH G 30.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS S 10 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS S 5 - 15 MPH.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY AND BREEZY. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS S 5 - 15 MPH G 30.
TUESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS W 15 - 20 MPH G 25.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH ISOLATED PM THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS 78 - 88. WINDS S 10 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. LOWS 41 - 51. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY AND BREEZY. HIGHS 77 - 87. WINDS S 10 - 20 MPH G 30. RIDGE G 55.
TUESDAY NIGHT: BREEZY WITH PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. LOWS 42 - 52. WINDS S 15 - 20 MPH G 30. RIDGE G 50.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
