FORECAST 31-JUL-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 31-JUL-09, MORNING REPORT

AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL BE OFF SHORE FOR THE WEEKEND AND THROUGH MOST OF NEXT WEEK, ALLOWING FOR A SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW. THIS IS A GOOD THING FOR US AS THIS WILL KEEP TEMPERATURES CLOSER TO NORMAL FOR THE FIRST WEEK IN AUGUST. ALONG WITH THIS, THERE WILL BE AN ON-GOING THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE HIGH COUNTRY, PARTICULARLY IN MONO COUNTY, THROUGH SUNDAY WITH THAT THREAT DROPPING OFF AS NEXT WEEK PROGRESSES. BY NEXT WEEKEND, A LARGE RIDGE IS PROGGED TO ESTABLISH ITSELF OVER THE DESERT SOUTHWEST AND THIS COULD RAISE TEMPERATURES BACK TO ABOVE NORMAL.

FOR THE MT. WHITNEY AREA: TODAY AND TONIGHT THERE WILL BE A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH ISOLATED HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE. ON SATURDAY EXPECT BREEZY CONDITONS WITH WINDS GUSTING AS HIGH AS 30 MPH.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 99. WINDS NW 11 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS SE 6 -9 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: 20% CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS UNDER PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS W 5- 15 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TONIGHT: WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS UNDER MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES. LOWS 43 - 53. WINDS W 10 - 15 MPH.
SATURDAY: BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY. CHANCE OF AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS 80 - 90. WINDS SE 10 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 42 - 52. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
