FORECAST 22-JUL-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 22-JUL-09, MORNING REPORT

OUR UPPER LEVEL HIGH WILL MEANDER AROUND THE SOUTHWEST A BIT AND AS IT DOES, THERE WILL BE SOME SLIGHT TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS FROM DAY TO DAY. HAVING SAID THAT, THINGS WILL STILL REMAIN ON THE HOT SIDE FOR MOST AREAS. THE FLOW WILL INCREASE FROM THE SOUTHEAST ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY AS THAT RIDGE TRIES TO CENTER ITSELF OVER THE FOUR CORNERS AREA. THUS, WE WILL HAVE INCREASING MOISTURE INTO THE WEEKEND AND A BETTER CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORM ACTION IN THE HIGH COUNTRY. LONG VIEW OUT SEES THE POSSIBILITY OF A TROUGH MOVING OFF THE WEST COAST MID NEXT WEEK. IF THIS HAPPENS, THERE MAY BE SOME SLIGHT COOLING OVER OUR FORECAST AREA. WE WILL WAIT AND SEE.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: SUNSHINE AND A FEW AFTERNOON CLOUDS. HIGHS AROUND 102. WINDS SE 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. WINDS SE 6 - 9 MPH.
THURSDAY: SLIGHT CHANCE OF AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS AROUND 98. WINDS SE 10 - 15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. WINDS SW 3 - 9 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: MORNING SUNSHINE FOLLOWED BY A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. 20% CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS W 5 - 15 MPH.
THURSDAY: 30% CHANCE OF AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH SCATTERED CLOUDS. HIGHS IN THE MID 80S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: 30% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS UNDER PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS W 5 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF AFTERNOON SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS 82 - 92. WINDS S 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 43 - 53. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
THURSDAY: SUN AND CLOUDS MIXED. 30% CHANCE OF AFTERNOON SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS 85 - 95. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY. 30% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 43 - 53. WINDS SW 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
