FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER

FRIDAY, 17-JUL-09, MORNING REPORT

SOME INTERESTING TEMPERATURES FROM YESTERDAY AND THIS MORNING; DEATH VALLEY 122, ONION VALLEY (9,200 FEET) 80, LONE PINE 104, AND THIS MORNING AT 5 AM, THE ALABAMA HILLS CLOCKED IN AT 79. THE BIG UPPER LEVEL RIDGE, RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE HIGH TEMPERATURES, WILL REMAIN OVER OUR FORECAST AREA THROUGH MID NEXT WEEK. SOME MID LEVEL MOISTURE WILL SNEAK INTO OUR AREA TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY, WITH MOST CLOUD BUILDUPS AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY CONFINED ALONG THE SIERRA CREST. THIS MOISTURE IS PARTLY DUE TO THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL STORM DOLORES. OUR BIG RIDGE WILL WEAKEN A BIT ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY AS A FEW SHORTWAVES MOVE THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST, SO A SLIGHT REDUCTION IN TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: HOT, HOT HOT. HIGHS AROUND 105. WINDS SE 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 60S. WINDS SE 9 MPH.
SATURDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES AND CONTINUED HOT. HIGHS AROUND 104. WINDS S 7 - 10 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 60S. WINDS SW 6 - 9 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 80S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.
