FORECAST 14-JUL-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

TUESDAY, 14-JUL-09, MORNING REPORT

PRETTY WARM YESTERDAY FOR SOME AREAS LIKE CHINA LAKE WITH 107 DEGREES. WARM UP CONTINUES THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK FOR ALL OF US AS UPPER LEVEL RIDGE MOVES INTO CALIFORNIA. RIGHT NOW FRIDAY LOOKS TO BE HOTTEST DAY WITH THE OWENS VALLEY AT ABOUT 105 DEGREES AND MAMMOTH RUNNING IN THE MID 80S. THAT RIDGE WEAKENS A BIT ON SUNDAY AS A TROUGH MOVES INTO THE PACNW, BUT I DON'T EXPECT IT TO BE MUCH COOLER, MAYBE A FEW DEGREES. BTW, THERE CONTINUES TO BE A VERY SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE HIGH COUNTRY ON THURSDAY AS SOME MONSOON MOISTURE TRIES TO MOVE IN FROM THE SOUTHEAST. AT THE LEAST SOME AREAS WILL GET INCREASE CLOUD COVER.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: SUNNY AND CONTINUED HOT. HIGHS AROUND 100. WINDS NW 5 - 7 MPH.
TONIGHT: CLEAR. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS SE 8 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: SUNNY SKIES AND WARM. HIGHS AROUND 101. WINDS NW 8 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: CLEAR. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS S 3 - 9 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS S 5 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS W 5 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS S 5 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS SW 5 - 10 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SUNNY. HIGHS 78 - 88. WINDS W 5 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS 39 - 49. WINDS W 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: SUNNY. HIGHS 83 - 93. WINDS SE 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: CLEAR. LOWS 40 - 50. WINDS SE 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
