FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

WEDNESDAY, 01-JUL-09, MORNING REPORT

THE UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE CORE IS FORECAST TO REMAIN OVER THE 4-CORNERS AREA THROUGH WEDNESDAY. THEN IT MOVES EAST TO THE TEXAS/NEW MEXICO BORDER BY THURSDAY AS A SHORT-WAVE PUSHES THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. THIS WILL TURN THE FLOW ALOFT OVER CALIFORNIA SOUTHERLY AND BRING MORE MONSOONAL MOISTURE INTO THE REGION WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY. THE RIDGE WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AS AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH DEVELOPS IN THE EAST PACIFIC SATURDAY. THIS TROUGH WILL REACH THE CALIFORNIA COAST SATURDAY AFTERNOON, BRINGING A DRY SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT TO OUR AREA. SO THERE WILL BE LESS A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND AND SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPERATURES.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: SUN AND CLOUDS MIXED. A 20% CHANCE THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE MID 90S. WINDS NW 5 - 10 MPH..
TONIGHT: A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS SW 8 - 11 MPH.
THURSDAY: CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE MID 90S. WINDS SE 10 -15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: CLOUDS AND A 30% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS SE 10 MPH.
