FORECAST 29-JUN-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

MONDAY, 29-JUN-09, MORNING REPORT

HIGH PRESSURE SHIFTS A LITTLE EASTWARD TODAY ALLOWING SOME MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY TO MOVE OVER THE MOUNTAINS. ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, A LITTLE MORE MOISTURE IS PUMPED UP FROM THE SOUTHEAST INCREASING THE CHANCES OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. I EXPECT MOST OF THIS ENERGY TO BE HIGH BASED, PRODUCING ONLY A CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IN THE VALLEYS. TEMPERATURES TO REMAIN VERY WARM IN BOTH THE VALLEYS AND THE HIGH COUNTRY THROUGH THE WORK WEEK. BY INDEPENDENCE DAY, DRIER AIR MOVES IN ALONG WITH SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPERATURES, FOR A REAL NICE HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: A GOOD DEAL OF SUNSHINE AND HOT TEMPERATURES. HIGHS IN THE LOW 100S. WINDS SW 15 - 20 MPH..
TONIGHT: SOME TRANSIENT CLOUDS. LOWS IN THE LOW 50S. WINDS W 10 - 15 MPH.
TUESDAY: MAINLY SUNNY WITH A FEW AFTERNOON CLOUDS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 90S. WINDS WSW 10 -15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: A FEW CLOUDS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. WINDS NW 5 - 10 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY TO START THEN A FEW PM CLOUDS AND A 10% CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS SW 5 - 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: SOME CLOUDS AND A 10% CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS W 5 - 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY A 10% CHANCE OF PM THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS S 5 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: 20% CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS W 5 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SUNNY IN THE AM WITH PM THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. HIGHS 80 - 90. WINDS S 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: 10% CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 42 - 52. WINDS W 10 - 15 MPH.
TUESDAY: BECOMING CLOUDY WITH A 10% CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. HIGHS 79 - 89. WINDS LIGHT AND VARIABLE.
TUESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 43 - 53. WINDS W 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
