FORECAST 12-JUN-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 12-JUN-09, MORNING REPORT

A VERY PERSISTENT LONG WAVE TROUGH WILL REMAIN ACROSS THE WESTERN U.S. THROUGH AT LEAST THE MIDDLE PART OF NEXT WEEK. IT WILL SEND A FEW SHORTWAVES ACROSS OUR AREA RESULTING IN LATE DAY/EARLY EVENING THUNDERSTORMS AND A CHANCE OF SHOWERS. THIS TROUGH HAS A LOT OF MOISTURE TO WORK WITH ALONG WITH THE WARMER JUNE SUN, CREATING THE ON-GOING CONVECTION POSSIBILITIES. RIGHT NOW AT LEAST, WE MAY GET SOME DRYING STARTING ON THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK. WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE ON THIS.

FOR ELEVATIONS ABOVE 10,000 FEET ALONG THE CREST INCLUDING THE MT. WHITNEY AREA, THERE WILL BE A 40% CHANCE OF OFF/ON ISOLATED SNOW SHOWERS TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. I EXPECT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS TO BE UNDER A 1/2 INCH ON ANY GIVEN DAY. THUNDER SNOW IS ALSO POSSIBLE ALONG WITH COOL TEMPERATURES.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: ISOLATED SHOWERS AND PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IS 20%. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS SW 5 - 15 MPH.
