FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER

THURSDAY, 11-JUN-09, MORNING REPORT

SEVERAL SHORTWAVES WILL MOVE ACROSS OUR AREA THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK AS A LONG WAVE TROUGH REMAINS IN PLACE OVER THE WESTERN U.S. THE FIRST WILL DROP THROUGH TONIGHT AND SLOWLY MOVE EASTWARD THROUGH SATURDAY. AS IT MOVES THROUGH, THE CHANCES FOR THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE MOUNTAINS AND SHOWERS IN THE VALLEYS WILL INCREASE. ON SUNDAY THAT SYSTEM WEAKENS AHEAD OF ANOTHER ONE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY. ONCE AGAIN THE POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS AND SHOWERS INCREASES.

I MIGHT ADD, FOR ANY OF YOU BACK COUNTRY TREKKERS, THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA (SAY 9,000 FEET AND UP) WILL HAVE AN ON-GOING CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. DURING THIS EXTENDED PERIOD TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN BELOW NORMAL.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MAINLY SUNNY THEN A FEW CLOUDS IN THE PM. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
THIS EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 50S. WINDS NW 5 - 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS SE 5 - 10 MPH.
FRIDAY EVENING: CONSIDERABLE CLOUDS WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 50S. WINDS NW 5 - 10 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: A FEW ISOLATED PM THUNDERSTORMS UNDER PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. CHANCE OF PRECIP. 30%. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 50S. WINDS SW 5 - 15 MPH.
THIS EVENING: SCATTERED RAIN & THUNDERSTORMS. CHANCE OF PRECIP. 50%. LOWS IN THE MID 30S. WINDS W 10 - 20 MPH.
