FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

WEDNESDAY, 03-JUN-09, MORNING REPORT

A LARGE PACIFIC LOW IS RESTING COMFORTABLY OFF THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST. IT WILL PUSH A PLUME OF UNSTABLE, SUB TROPICAL MOISTURE OVER THE CREST TODAY AND THURSDAY. THIS WILL GIVE US AN ON-GOING THREAT OF TSTMS, ISOLATED HEAVY RAIN, GUSTY WINDS AND BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. WIND ADVISORIES WILL BE HOISTED FOR THE OWENS VALLEY FROM 2PM TO 7PM TODAY. THAT LOW BEGINS TO MOVE INLAND ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WITH SLIGHTLY REDUCED WINDS AND CONTINUED INSTABILITY OVER THE CREST INTO SUNDAY AND MONDAY. ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, AS THE LOWS MOVES THROUGH, TEMPERATURES WILL DROP AS WELL AS THE SNOW LEVELS AND SNOW SHOWERS COULD HAPPEN IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS ABOVE 8,500 FEET.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: ISOLATED SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS S 20 - 30 MPH G 40.
THIS EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS S 10 -15 MPH.
THURSDAY: A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 80S. WINDS S 10 - 15 MPH G 30.
THURSDAY EVENING: A CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 50S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: A 40% CHANCE OF SHOWERS & TSTMS. ISOLATED HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE. HIGHS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.
THIS EVENING: CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. WINDS SW 5 - 10 MPH.
