FORECAST28-MAY-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

THURSDAY, 28-MAY-09, MORNING REPORT

HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED OVER THE GREAT BASIN WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE US WITH WARM TEMPERATURES. AT THE SAME TIME, A WEAK LOW DRIFTING EAST TOWARD SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL DRAW MOISTURE INTO OUR AREA, ALLOWING FOR ON-GOING THUNDERSTORM POSSIBILITIES, PARTICULARLY IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. THIS SCENARIO WILL CONTINUE INTO THE WEEKEND, THEN BY THE FIRST PART OF NEXT WEEK A LOW PASSING THROUGH THE PACNW WILL DROP TEMPERATURES A BIT AND GIVE US A CHANCE OF AREA WIDE SHOWERS. TEMPERATURES SHOULD STAY AT OR SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL THROUGH THURSDAY OF NEXT WEEK. ALONG WITH THIS, WE COULD SEE SOME WINDY CONDITIONS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS. STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: BECOMING CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S. WINDS S 7 - 10 MPH.
THIS EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS NW 3 - 8 MPH.
FRIDAY: A 20% CHANCE OF AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 80S. WINDS S 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY EVENING: 20% CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SE 5 - 10 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: BECOMING CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 60S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.
THIS EVENING: A CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS W 5 - 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: SUN AND CLOUDS MIXED WITH A CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 60S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.
FRIDAY EVENING: ISOLATED SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS S 5 - 10 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY

TODAY: SOME CLOUDS WITH A STRAY THUNDERSTORM OR TWO. HIGHS 73 - 83. WINDS S 10 MPH.
THIS EVENING: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH ISOLATED SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS 37 - 47. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY: BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH ISOLATED AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS 71 - 81. WINDS S 10 MPH.
FRIDAY EVENING: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE. LOWS 41 - 51. WINDS SW 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
