FORECAST 15-MAY-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

FRIDAY, 15-MAY-09, EVENING REPORT

HIGH PRESSURE WILL NOSE IN OVER THE WEEKEND RESULTING IN RECORD OR NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES IN SOME AREAS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. RIGHT NOW SUNDAY LOOKS TO BE THE HOTTEST DAY WITH THE OWENS VALLEY LOOKING AT THE UPPER 90S, MAMMOTH THE MID 70S AND SOME MONO VALLEYS IN THE LOW 90S. AS A POINT OF INTEREST, DEATH VALLEY SHOULD SEE A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF AROUND 119 DEGREES ON SUNDAY. SOME HEAT LIMITED MOISTURE WILL AFFECT THE HIGH COUNTRY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. ON MONDAY THE RIDGE MOVES EASTWARD TOWARDS THE FOUR CORNERS AREA AND THIS WILL ALLOW A WEAK SUB-TROPICAL LOW TO INFLUENCE OUR WEATHER WITH AN ONGOING CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE CREST INTO THE MID PART OF NEXT WEEK. THE INCREASED CUMULUS BUILD UP SHOULD SHAVE OFF A FEW DEGREES OF HEAT FOR US IN THAT TIME PERIOD.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

THIS EVENING: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS NW 6 MPH.
SATURDAY: MAINLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 90S. WINDS SE 5 - 8 MPH.
SATURDAY EVENING: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SE 5 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

THIS EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED TSRWS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S. WINDS NE 5 - 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS N 5 MPH.
SATURDAY EVENING: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS E 5 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY

THIS EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH POSSIBLE TSRWS. LOWS 35 - 45. WINDS N 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: SUNSHINE. HIGHS 77 - 87. WINDS N 10 MPH.
SATURDAY EVENING: CLEAR. LOWS 37 - 47. WINDS LIGHT.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
