FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

THURSDAY, 30-APR-09, MORNING REPORT

A POTENTIALLY WET SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH CENTRAL CALIFORNIA LATER FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY. THERE IS IMPRESSIVE DYNAMICS WITH THIS SYSTEM AND IT SHOULD SPREAD A GOOD CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION THOUGH MOST OF OUR FORECAST AREA. THE PRESSURE GRADIENTS WILL BE FAIRLY LOOSE, KEEPING THE WINDS TO MANAGEABLE LEVELS. BECAUSE THERE WILL BE A WARM SUB-TROPICAL TAP WITH THIS SYSTEM, SNOW LEVELS SHOULD REMAIN QUITE HIGH WITH ACCUMULATIONS LIMITED TO 8,000 FEET AND ABOVE. THINGS CLEAR OUT FOR THE OWENS VALLEY STARTING ON SUNDAY, BUT REMAIN UNSETTLED THROUGH NEXT TUESDAY FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY AS SOME LINGERING SHOWERS PERSIST. BY LATE TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY A STRONG, FLAT RIDGE BUILDS IN DRIVING THE STORM TRACK NORTH OF OUR AREA.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 80S. WINDS NW @ 5 - 9 MPH.
THIS EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS NW @ 6 - 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS NW @ 5 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY EVENING: CLOUDY WITH A 50% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS NW @ 6 - 8 MPH.

FOR MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS W @ 10 - 15 MPH G 20.
THIS EVENING: MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 30S. WINDS W @ 5 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY: CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF RAIN / SNOW SHOWERS. SNOW LEVEL ABOUT 9,000 FEET. HIGH IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SW @ 5 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY EVENING: CLOUDY WITH A 80% CHANCE OF SNOW. LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. WINDS W @ 10 MPH.

TODAY: INCREASING CLOUDS. HIGHS 60 - 70. WINDS W @ 10 - 15 MPH.
THIS EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH INCREASING CLOUDS. LOWS 31 - 41. WINDS W 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY: CLOUDY WITH A FEW SHOWERS. HIGHS 51 - 61. WINDS SW @ 10 MPH. RIDGE G 50.
FRIDAY EVENING: CONSIDERABLE CLOUDINESS WITH PERIODS OF RAIN OR SNOW. SNOW LEVEL ABOUT 8,000 FEET. LOWS 33 - 43. WINDS SW @ 10 - 15 MPH.
