FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER

TUESDAY, 14-APR-09, MORNING REPORT

INCREASED WINDS AND CLOUDS TODAY AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING FRONTAL SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING WIND ADVISORIES TO BOTH MONO AND INYO COUNTIES, COOLER TEMPERATURES AND A CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION TO BOTH THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE OWENS VALLEY THROUGH WEDNESDAY. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL OCCUR LATER TODAY. THESE WINDS WILL BE CAUSED BY STRONG PRESSURE GRADIENTS COMBINED WITH ENHANCED AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES GRADIENTS OVER THE GREAT BASIN. BLOWING DUST AND SAND IN SOME AREAS ALONG HWY 395 IS A REAL POSSIBILITY. THE SYSTEM WILL MOVE EAST ON THURSDAY AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS OVER THE WEST COAST. THUS WE WILL HAVE WARMING TEMPERATURES, 10 - 15 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL, MUCH REDUCED WINDS AND DRY WEATHER INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE MID 60S. WINDS BECOMING SW 20 - 25 MPH G 35.
THIS EVENING: CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. WINDS NW 15 - 20 MPH G 30.
WEDNESDAY: PARTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE LOW 50S. WINDS BECOMING NW 15 - 20 MPH G 30.
WEDNESDAY EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 20S. BLUSTERY WITH WINDS NW 15 - 20 MPH G 25.

FOR MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS. HIGHS DROPPING TO THE LOWER 20S LATER IN THE DAY. WINDS S 20 - 30 MPH G 50.
THIS EVENING: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 80% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS IN THE LOWER TEENS. WINDS NW 25 - 30 MPH G 45.

THIS EVENING: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH NUMEROUS SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS 9 - 19. WINDS NW 20 - 30 MPH G 55. RIDGE G 75.
WEDNESDAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY AND WINDY WITH A CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. HIGHS 34 - 44. WINDS NW 20 - 30 MPH G 45. RIDGE G 60.
