FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

MONDAY, 13-APR-09, MORNING REPORT

OUR RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE IS BEING WEAKENED BY AN APPROACHING STORM SYSTEM OUT OF THE GULF OF ALASKA. INITIALLY WE WILL SEE INCREASING CLOUDS TODAY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IN THE HIGH COUNTRY THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. MILD TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TODAY THEN DROP TOMORROW, AS MUCH 15 - 20 DEGREES, AS THE SYSTEM CONTINUES TO MOVE SOUTH INTO THE PACNW. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS CONTINUES FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY AND THE OWENS VALLEY ON TUESDAY. ALSO, TIGHTENING PRESSURE GRADIENTS WILL CREATE GUSTY WINDS FOR ALL AREAS, POSSIBLY TO WARNING CRITERIA. THERE IS A CHANCE OF BLOWING DUST AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES ALONG HIGHWAY 395 IN BOTH MONO AND INYO COUNTIES. SYSTEM MOVES OUT LATER WEDNESDAY WITH WINDS SPEEDS IN A DOWNWARD TREND ON THURSDAY. THEN DRY AND WARMING CONDITIONS THROUGH THE WEEKEND AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN OVER THE AREA.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 70S. WINDS SW 8 - 12 MPH.
THIS EVENING: CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S. WINDS NW 5 - 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND BREEZY. HIGHS IN THE MID 60S. WINDS BECOMING W 20 - 25 MPH G 30.
TUESDAY EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. BLUSTERY WITH WINDS NW 15 - 20 MPH G 30.

FOR MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF AFTERNOON SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 50S. WINDS W 5 - 15 MPH G 30.
THIS EVENING: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS. LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH G 25.
TUESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 30S. WINDS SW INCREASING TO 25 - 30 MPH G 45.
