FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER

THURSDAY, 02-APR-09, MORNING REPORT

THE LEADING EDGE OF AN APPROACHING UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL REACH THE PACNW COAST THIS MORNING, THEN MOVE INLAND THROUGH THE DAY AND EVENING. THAT TROUGH WILL BRING STRONG, GUSTY WINDS AND A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY LATER TODAY AND OVERNIGHT. THERE IS A HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK AND A WIND ADVISORY FOR THIS AFTERNOON INTO AT LEAST FRIDAY MORNING. THIS IS FOR THE EASTERN SIERRA SLOPES, THE TOWNS OF THE OWENS VALLEY, THE WHITE MOUNTAINS OF INYO COUNTY, ASPENDELL AND MT. WHITNEY. GUSTY WINDS WILL ALSO AFFECT MONO COUNTY AS WELL. BLOWING DUST AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES ARE POSSIBLE IN MONO AND INYO COUNTIES. THEN THERE WILL BE A NICE BREAK IN THE WEATHER OVER THE WEEKEND, AS WEAK HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS IN, WITH A REBOUND IN TEMPERATURES AND A REDUCTION OF THE WINDS FROM FRIDAY. ANOTHER, STRONGER SYSTEM WILL IMPACT THE AREA, WITH A BETTER CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION MONDAY AND TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. AND ONCE AGAIN, GUSTY WINDS CAN BE EXPECTED FROM THIS SYSTEM.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. VERY WINDY LATER TODAY WITH WINDS NW 30 - 40 MPH G 60.
THIS EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY AND BREEZY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. WINDS NW 15 - 20 MPH G 30.
FRIDAY: PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE LOW 60S. WINDY WITH WINDS N 30 - 40 MPH G 55.
FRIDAY EVENING: PARTLY CLOUDY AND BLUSTERY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 20S. WINDS W 25 - 30 MPH G 40.
