FORECAST 17-MAR-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

TUESDAY, 17-MAR-09, MORNING REPORT

FLAT RIDGING BUILDS IN OVER THE AREA WITH LOTS OF MID AND HIGH LEVELS CLOUDS PASSING OVERHEAD, MAKING FOR WHAT WE CALL A "DIRTY RIDGE." SO, DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE, THERE WILL BE PARTLY SUNNY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH FRIDAY. TEMPERATURES IN ALL AREAS WILL BE RUNNING ABOVE NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. IT STILL LOOKS LIKE A COLD UPPER TROUGH OUT OF THE GULF OF ALASKA MAY EFFECT THE FORECAST AREA LATER ON SATURDAY INTO EARLY SUNDAY. THIS COULD RESULT IN A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SNOW FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY AND MAYBE A 20% CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE OWENS VALLEY. RIGHT NOW, JUST HOW STRONG THIS SYSTEM ACTUALLY WILL BE IS QUESTIONABLE. TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO RUN ABOVE NORMAL INTO FRIDAY, THE DROP TO TO NORMAL OR BELOW NORMAL BY SUNDAY.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS NW 3 - 6 MPH.
TONIGHT: SOME CLOUDS OVERHEAD. LOWS IN THE MID 30S. WINDS NW 3 - 5 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS NW LIGHT.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 30S. WINDS W LIGHT.

FOR MAMMOTH AND JUNE LAKES:

TODAY: PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS S 5 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 20S. WINDS SW 5 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 50S. WINDS CALM.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. WINDS N 5 MPH.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS. HIGHS 49 - 59. WINDS SW 10 MPH. RIDGE G 50.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS 23 - 33. WINDS SW 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: INTERVALS OF CLOUDS AND SUNSHINE. HIGHS 56 - 66. WINDS LIGHT.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS 24 - 34. WINDS LIGHT.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
