Hiking in a skirt?

I have a question for the women on this board....

I’ve often thought that wearing a skirt while backpacking would have some real advantages, and wondered if anyone’s tried it? They would certainly be cool, and (more importantly) when nature calls, a skirt would be WAY easier to just pull up than balancing with the shorts around the ankles…. faster too. Thermals or pants can be worn underneath, then could be removed later without having to get totally undressed. … and a short skirt would be so cute with hiking boots :D

I think the only concern would be the possibility of chafing… not fun. I think I’m going to try it once it warms up here a little… this is definitely NOT short skirt weather in the mountains.

Hi Rosabella

I wore a sundress once on a backpacking trip in the Trinity Alps years ago...and it felt so good..it was much cooler and quite comfortable I thought. I had thought about wearing one again one day..either a skirt or sundress...Yes very cute with hiking boots =D>

Cant say I’ve actually tried hiking in a skirt, but I know a few Scottish dues that swear by it. :D

I think we all try to hike as light and free as possible, but chafing isn't just a woman thing. i did not know that until a friend had a problem on a trip. mental note: briefs not boxers..

Anita, I never thought about a sundress, that would be VERY comfy! I found a cargo-skirt in my closet that I think I'll try... it's about mid-thigh, and I like the pockets.

;) Bad man, I think your friends are hiking in the kilts for the same advantages that I listed earlier. I have a nephew who "lives" in his kilt.

I'm sure looking forward to some better weather up here.

Never let a man in a kilt be the lead climber. :puke:
