FORECAST 02-MAR-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

MONDAY, 02-MAR-09, 7:00 AM

A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO INFLUENCE OUR WEATHER THROUGH THE WORK WEEK AS IT SENDS PIECES OF ENERGY OUR WAY. THE CHALLENGE HERE IS HOW MUCH MOISTURE WILL MAKE IT OVER THE CREST AND WHERE. HAVING SAID THAT, I EXPECT OFF AND ON RAIN IN THE OWENS VALLEY AND SNOW IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. THIS SYSTEM IS EFFECTED BY A SUB TROPICAL TAP SO SNOW LEVELS WILL FLUCTUATE ON THE HIGHER SIDE. WINDS WILL ALSO BE AN ISSUE FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS IN SOME AREAS OF THE OWENS VALLEY AND IN MONO COUNTY. THINGS DRY OUT A BIT ON TUESDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY THEN ANOTHER PIECE OF ENERGY MOVES THROUGH ON TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY. MAMMOTH, JUNE LAKES AND THE REST OF MONO COUNTY WILL HAVE A CHANCE OF SNOW THROUGH OUT THE WEEK. ONE FINAL NOTE HERE, THIS SYSTEM IS VERY FLUID (NO PUN INTENDED) AND MOSTLY LIKLEY ADJUSTMENTS WILL NEED TO BE MADE IN THE UPCOMING FORECASTS, SO STAY TUNED.

AIR QUALITY IN THE OWENS VALLEY IS GOOD TODAY WITH 14.24 UG/M3 OF PM-10.
