Supervisors Hear About Changing Hwy 132 To "John Muir Hwy"

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Sonora, CA -- There is an effort to rename Hwy 132 from Modesto to Yosemite National Park as John Muir Highway.

Since a portion runs through the community of Don Pedro, proponent Ken Pulvino spoke to the Tuolumne County Supervisors Tuesday about the reasoning.

“This is the route that John Muir took and wrote about in his journal ‘My First Summer In The Sierra',” says Pulvino. “He makes specific references to areas that we know.”

Pulvino says that the change would bring attention to the highway and help spur economic revitalization with an “ag and geo tourism branding strategy.”

Hwy 132 travels through the commercial district of Don Pedro.

The Supervisors indicated that they will endorse the idea, but an actual vote will be held at a later meeting. The final decision to rename Highway 132 would be made by the State of California.
