FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

MONDAY, 16-FEB-09, 7:34

A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BRING WIDESPREAD RAIN AND SNOW TO THE VALLEYS AND HEAVY SNOW TO THE UPPER ELEVATIONS TODAY AND INTO TUESDAY. A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 7AM TO 10 PM THIS EVENING FOR THE SOUTHERN SIERRA AND FROM 7AM TODAY UNTIL 4 AM TUESDAY FOR THE UPPER ELEVATIONS OF MONO COUNTY. THE STORM WARNING COULD BE EXTENDED FOR MONO COUNTY ON TUESDAY AS THE SITUATION DEVELOPS. SNOW WILL WIND DOWN A BIT TONIGHT AS THE FRONT PASSES THROUGH THEN PICK UP AGAIN ON TUESDAY AS THE CORE OF THE LOW MOVES THROUGH. STRONG RIDGING IS THEN SET TO MOVE INTO CALIFORNIA ON WEDNESDAY PROVIDING US WITH DRY WEATHER AND TEMPERATURES RETURNING BACK TO NORMAL THROUGH MOST OF THE WEEKEND.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: CLOUDY WITH SNOW LIKELY. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION 70%. HIGHS IN THE MID 40S. SOUTHEAST WIND 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 50% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS IN THE MID 20S. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH GUSTING TO 20.
TUESDAY: CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS. HIGHS IN THE MID 40S. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 20% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS AROUND 23. NORTH WIND 7 - 10 MPH
