FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

THURSDAY, 05-FEB-09, 7:01

A SERIES OF MODERATE STORMS ARE SET TO EFFECT OUR AREA BRINGING COOLER TEMPERATURES, GUSTY WINDS, VALLEY RAIN AND UPPER ELEVATION SNOW. THE FIRST SHORTWAVE WILL EJECT INLAND TODAY WITH MOISTURE EVENTUALLY SPREADING OVER THE ENTIRE AREA AND WINDS TO ADVISORY LEVELS IN THE OWENS VALLEY. INITIALLY, SNOW LEVELS WILL BE QUITE HIGH WITH THIS FIRST SYSTEM. THAT SYSTEM LIFTS OUT THIS EVENING FOLLOWED BY A SECOND ON FRIDAY. THIS WILL BE A COLDER SYSTEM AND SNOW LEVELS COULD DROP TO ABOUT 5,000 FEET. THIS SYSTEM WILL HANG AROUND THROUGH SATURDAY, THEN ANOTHER SHORTWAVE TRACKS THROUGH LATER SUNDAY INTO MONDAY. RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE UNSETTLED WEATHER THROUGH MOST OF NEXT WEEK. STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: CLOUDY WITH A 50% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AS THE DAY PROGRESSES. HIGHS AROUND 56. SOUTH WIND 15 - 25 MPH GUSTING TO 38.
TONIGHT: CLOUDY WITH 50% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. LOWS AROUND 30. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY: CLOUDY WITH A 60% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. HIGHS AROUND 51. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 20.
FRIDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A 40% CHANCE OF SHOWERS. EVENING LOWS AROUND 28. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TODAY: CLOUDY WITH A 100% CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. HIGHS AROUND 35. SOUTH WIND 10 MPH GUSTING TO 20.
TONIGHT: SNOW SHOWERS WITH LOWS AROUND 27. SOUTHWEST WIND 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30.
FRIDAY: CLOUDY WITH AN 80% CHANCE OF SNOW. HIGHS NEAR 33. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH NUMEROUS SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS 19 - 29. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30. RIDGE GUSTS TO 70.
