FORECAST 04-FEB-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 04-FEB-09, 7:05

CONTINUED DRY WEATHER AND ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES TODAY, AS OUR PROTECTIVE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE IS NUDGED EASTWARD BY A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING ONTO THE COAST. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING GUSTY WINDS, COOLER TEMPERATURES AND A CHANCE OF VALLEY RAIN AND HIGHER ELEVATION SNOW TO OUR AREA ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THEN ANOTHER, COLDER AND STRONGER STORM WILL BRING EVEN GREATER CHANCES OF RAIN IN THE VALLEYS AND SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS ON SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY MORNING. I'M THINKING ABOUT 2 FEET OF NEW SNOW FOR MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN FROM THESE STORMS BY SUNDAY. ALSO, THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE IN ISOLATED AREAS ON SATURDAY. RIGHT NOW, THINGS LOOK TO STAY UNSETTLED INTO THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGHS AROUND 65. SOUTHEAST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH LOWS AROUND 30. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

FOR MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGHS AROUND 52. SOUTH WIND 10 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: CLOUDY AND BREEZY WITH SNOW SHOWERS. EVENING LOWS NEAR 28. SOUTH WIND 20 MPH GUSTING TO 30.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: PARTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGHS 53 - 63. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH LOWS 22 - 32. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30. RIDGE GUSTS TO 50.
THURSDAY: CLOUDY WITH SNOW SHOWERS INCREASING THROUGH OUT THE DAY. HIGHS 38 - 48. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH. RIDGE GUSTS TO 75.
THURSDAY NIGHT: CLOUDY WITH NUMEROUS SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS 20 - 30. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 35. RIDGE GUSTS TO 60.
