FORECAST 15-JAN-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

THURSDAY, 15-JAN-09, 7:11

RECORD HIGH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES YESTERDAY, FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER DAY OF RECORD HIGHS TODAY, AS THE BLOCKING PATTERN CONTINUES WITH A HIGH AMPLITUDE RIDGE FIRMLY IN PLACE OFF THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST. SLIGHT COOLING ON FRIDAY BUT STILL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THEN ON TUESDAY THAT BIG RIDGE FINALLY STARTS TO BREAK DOWN A LITTLE IN RESPONSE TO STRONG ENERGY OUT OF THE GULF OF ALASKA. ITS A BIT FAR OUT RIGHT NOW TO FORECAST ANY SPECIFIC WEATHER CHANGES, BUT I WILL GO WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION IN THE HIGH COUNTRY ON WEDNESDAY. STAY TUNED AS THIS SITUATION EVOLVES.
FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: SUNNY SKIES WITH POSSIBLE RECORD HIGHS NEAR 71. NORTHWEST WIND 6 - 9 MPH.
TONIGHT: CLEAR SKIES WITH LOWS AROUND 33. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 9 MPH.
FRIDAY: SUNNY WITH HIGHS AROUND 68. NORTHWEST WIND 3 - 9 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: CLEAR WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 28. NORTHWEST WIND 7 - 10 MPH.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: SUNNY BLUE SKIES WITH HIGHS AROUND 52. SOUTH WIND 5 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES. LOWS AROUND 22. SOUTH WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: LOTS OF SUNSHINE. HIGHS NEAR 47. SOUTH WIND 5 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 24. WEST WIND 5 MPH.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SUNNY. HIGHS 46 - 56. NORTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: CLEAR. LOWS 12 - 22. NORTHWEST WIND UP TO 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH HIGHS 41 - 51. WINDS WILL BE LIGHT.
FRIDAY NIGHT: CLEAR WITH LOWS 13 - 23. LIGHT WINDS.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
