FORECAST 29-DEC-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

MONDAY, 29-DEC-08, 7:10

AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS IN CONTROL AND WILL MODERATE TEMPERATURES SOMEWHAT, AS WE HAVE HAD BELOW NORMAL TEMPS FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS. THAT RIDGE WILL DOMINATE OUR WEATHER UNTIL AT LEAST THE END OF THE WEEK, GIVING US SLIGHTLY WARMING TEMPERATURES AND MOSTLY FAIR SKIES. RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE SHORTWAVE ENERGY WILL PUSH INTO THE AREA STARTING LATE FRIDAY FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY AND LATE SATURDAY FOR THE OWENS VALLEY. TIMING IS ALWAYS AN ISSUE HERE BUT, WHAT THIS MEANS IS A CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS IN THE UPPER ELEVATIONS AND RAIN OR SNOW FOR THE VALLEYS OVER THE WEEKEND. STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH A HIGH NEAR 50. NORTHWEST WIND 6 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS AROUND 21. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 7 MPH.
TUESDAY: GENERALLY SUNNY WITH HIGHS AROUND 51. NORTHWEST WIND 4 - 7 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 22. NORTHWEST WIND 6 MPH.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH HIGHS AROUND 39. EAST WIND 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES. LOWS AROUND 15. WEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS NEAR 39. WEST WIND CALM.
TUESDAY NIGHT: A FEW CLOUDS OVERHEAD WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 16. CALM WIND.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: A MIX OF SUN AND CLOUDS WITH HIGHS 34 - 44. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH. RIDGE GUSTS TO 60.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS 8 - 18. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH. RIDGE GUSTS TO 50.
TUESDAY: SUN WITH A FEW PASSING CLOUDS AND HIGHS 33 - 43. LIGHT WIND.
TUESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS 11 - 21. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.
