FORECAST 24-DEC-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

WEDNESDAY, 24-DEC-08, 7:32

TWO SYSTEMS WILL MOVE THROUGH TODAY AND CHRISTMAS DAY. THE FIRST WILL BRING SNOW SHOWERS TO THE HIGH COUNTRY AND A CHANCE OF RAIN TO THE OWENS VALLEY, THEN THE SECOND AND STRONGER SYSTEM ON CHRISTMAS DAY WILL GIVE US MORE SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND HIGH WINDS. I EXPECT FROM 2 - 4 FEET OF NEW SNOW IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS BEFORE THE SYSTEM CLEARS THE AREA. SNOW LEVELS WILL DROP SHARPLY WITH THIS SYSTEM AND SNOW ON THE VALLEY FLOORS IS POSSIBLE IN SOME AREAS. BY FRIDAY THE SECOND SYSTEM WILL DEPART TO THE EAST WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF A FEW LINGERING SHOWERS. WEAK RIDGING BUILDS IN FOR THE WEEKEND WITH MOSTLY DRY WEATHER FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND UNSETTLED WEATHER FOR MAMMOTH / MONO COUNTY.

CHECK CALTRANS FOR HWY CONDITIONS IF YOU PLAN ON TRAVELING ON CHRISTMAS DAY. ROAD CLOSURES ARE POSSIBLE WITH THE POTENTIAL OF WHITE OUT / BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ON HWY 395 FROM BISHOP NORTH TO RENO.
