FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

FRIDAY, 19-DEC-08, 7:00

A WEAKENING SYSTEM IS MOVING OUR WAY AND WILL MOVE OUT OF THE AREA THIS EVENING. IT WILL GIVE US A LITTLE SNOW IN THE HIGH COUTRY AND JUST A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SOME RAIN SHOWERS IN SELECT LOCATIONS WITHIN THE OWENS VALLEY. THE ONE THING THE HIGH COUNTRY WILL GET IS WINDY CONDITIONS, PARTICULARLY IN MONO COUNTY AND OVER THE CREST. A WIND ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR MONO COUNTY UNTIL 1PM TODAY. SATURDAY AND MOST OF THE DAY ON SUNDAY LOOKS MOSTLY DRY WITH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WARMING SLIGHTLY FROM THE LAST FEW DAYS. ON SUNDAY EVENING OR MONDAY ANOTHER SYSTEM SWINGS THROUGH WITH SNOW LEVELS GENERALLY AT 5,000 TO 6,000 FEET AND A CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE OWENS VALLEY. THEN RIGHT NOW THERE LOOKS TO A BREAK BETWEEN SYSTEMS ON TUESDAY WITH ANOTHER 1 OR 2 SYSTEMS MOVING THROUGH ON OR ABOUT CHRISTMAS EVE AND CHRISTMAS DAY. STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES ON THESE.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN SHOWERS. HIGHS AROUND 40. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH LOWS AROUND 16. NORTHWEST WIND 7 - 10 MPH.
SATURDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY WITH HIGHS AROUND 43. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 8 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 18. NORTHWEST WIND 3 - 5 MPH.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

TODAY: PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOW EARLY THEN PARTIAL CLEARING. DAYTIME HIGHS AROUND 28. WEST WIND 20 - 30 MPH GUSTING TO 60.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS IN THE EARLY EVENING. LOWS AROUND 9. WEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 40.
SATURDAY: PARTLY SUNNY WITH DAYTIME HIGHS NEAR 30. NORTHWEST WIND 5 - 10 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH EVENING LOWS NEAR 15. WIND LIGHT AND VARIABLE.

FOR THE REST OF MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: PARTLY CLOUDY, VERY WINDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE SNOW SHOWERS. HIGHS RANGING FROM 24 - 34. SOUTHWEST WIND 25 - 35 MPH WITH WIND GUSTS TO 65. RIDGE TOP GUSTS OVER 100.
TONIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SNOW SHOWERS. LOWS FROM 3 BELOW TO 7 ABOVE ZERO. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 20 MPH GUSTING TO 40 WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 75.
SATURDAY: A MIX OF CLOUDS AND SUN WITH HIGHS FROM 23 TO 33. NORTHWEST WIND 10 MPH WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 60.
SATURDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS FROM 8 TO 18. LIGHT WIND WITH RIDGE TOP GUSTS TO 50.
